Blonde Redhead, Misery Is A Butterfly

One of the multiple gems found on Blonde Redhead's latest and excellent Misery Is A Butterfly, Equus demonstrates most of what makes their music so unique. Playful guitars interleaving around clean drum arrangements, generating a very bright and catchy atmosphere, joined by the girlish voice of the singer (japanese Kazu Makino).

Perhaps the geographical variety of origins of the musicians (two italian brothers and a japanese singer who met in New York) is at the root of the diversity of emotions contained in their music. Suffering, quietness, beauty, sadness, esthetism; somehow they manage to blend contradictory feelings into unique creations.

Equus remains one of the happiest track on the album. Other outstanding tracks include Anticipation (beautiful lament in a crystal room), Falling Man (plaintive personality crisis) and Melody (sad, obsessive ballad).
