Latest stable: 0.5.0
(released 2006-10-23)
nyello is a command-line XMMS2 client.
It aims at providing a high-level interface to the XMMS2 server, with a concise and powerful interaction syntax. It boasts (or soon will boast) advanced features, such as rich pattern expressions to efficiently browse your library, smart completion of commands and custom song collections to organize your library.
It can either run a single command or work like a shell (if started without argument). As a command-line program, it is mostly targetted at Unix power-users.
nyello is distributed under the terms of the GNU GPL, version 2.0 or later.
You can check what it looks like on the screenshot page and get it from the download page.
2008-02-28 — Namárië nyello!
nyello, the elvish singer and XMMS2 client, has been deprecated as of the DrJekyll release. It has served well, but it is now time to move on to a world of XMMS2-supported Collections!
The spirit of his kind, however, will transcend his descendance, such as nycli and lindalë.
Long live XMMS2!
Namárië!
2006-10-23 — v0.5.0 released!
nyello 0.5.0 is out! Apart from some legal and technical fixes (copyright/license in source files, configure scripts), it adds a seek command, a "current song" pattern symbol and the remove and jump commands have been updated to use pattern arguments!
This will probably be the last release before the Big Rewrite that will happen as soon as Collections are merged and C++ bindings support them.
As usual, it is available from the download page.
2006-03-26 — v0.4.1 gets a FreeBSD port!
A few weeks ago, nyello 0.4.1 got a FreeBSD port, thanks to DraX's initiative. Many thanks to DraX!
The development of nyello had stalled for a while because of heavy study workload, but I finally managed to make a major refactoring of the codebase on several levels ; it's all in the unstable branch of the git tree, but too transitional to be worth testing.
A lot of energy is now put into getting new, classy C++ bindings for xmms2. It should be finalized for the next Developer Release, but nyello won't evolve much before that. Overall, most of the work is now translated into the xmms2 core and implementing it in nyello afterwards should be almost trivial.
2005-12-30 — v0.4.0 released for New Year!
Right in time before 2006, here comes nyello's 0.4.0 release! Most of the work is not user-visible though; a huge refactoring was done to port the code to asynchroneous calls only. Not very impressive, you say, but this will serve as a basis for the new features to come, namely collections and smart playlists!
One new command was introduced too: import, which allows you to ... import directories and files in the medialib (surprise!). You might also notice that the active playlist is now kept in sync with the corresponding playlist in the medialib. On top of that, various bugs were fixed.
So, grab the new release from the download page and try it!
